Abstract
Following a 'Requires improvement' rating from Ofsted, this primary school had to address challenges including low expectations, unstable staffing, very high pupil mobility, inaccurate SEND data, inconsistent identification processes, and weak strategic monitoring of provision and attendance. Through the Whole School SEND Peer Mentoring programme, leaders began with a SEND data review using the 'Nutshell' tool, strengthened distributed SEND leadership, clarified the graduated approach and ordinarily available provision, developed an OAP document and SEND Teacher Handbook, remodelled TA deployment, refined assessment using pre-key stage standards, and ensured SEND featured in routine monitoring. Evidence of impact includes greatly improved strategic understanding of SEND data, clearer accountability across staff, reviewed SEND registers, strengthened attendance monitoring systems, improved SEN leadership practice, and more robust whole-school processes aligned to inclusive provision.
