Abstract
At this special school for pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties, leaders identified inconsistency in how Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) was understood and assessed in EYFS and primary phases. A targeted project introduced explicit PfA targets across health, living skills, employment and community inclusion for selected KS1 and KS2 pupils, supported by staff training and increased use of incidental learning records. Evidence of impact includes clearer staff understanding, increased completion of incidental assessments, and demonstrable pupil progress (e.g., independent self-care and following instructions). The work has strengthened assessment accuracy and is informing plans for whole-school implementation of PfA targets.
