Abstract
Recognising the need to align culture and curriculum with stronger preparation for adulthood outcomes, this multi-site FE college engaged in a SEND Centres of Excellence peer review led by NATSPEC. Challenges included an overly narrow curriculum, burdensome progress-tracking systems, weak cross-site collaboration, and insufficient learner challenge. Actions included implementation of a streamlined electronic portfolio system, re-design of pathway curricula to broaden employability experiences, targeted staff training on pedagogical change, tighter target-setting processes linked to robust baselines, and strengthened cross-site leadership monitoring through regular learning walks. Evidence of impact includes clearer curriculum offers understood by families, improved learner engagement and articulation of targets, more structured and differentiated lessons, expansion of work-experience opportunities, and growth to 27 supported internships with plans to more than double participation.
