Abstract
Across the Northern region, Whole School SEND established a Community Join-Up Group to help mainstream settings respond to increasingly complex needs by learning from specialist provision. Challenges included limited confidence in supporting complex learners and a lack of practical models for semi-formal provision in mainstream schools. Actions included regional network meetings led by a WSS Regional Lead, knowledge exchange between MATs, local authorities and special schools, dissemination of semi-formal curriculum models, and sharing of target-setting and outcome documentation. Evidence of impact includes increased SENDCO confidence, access to evaluated semi-formal provision models, commitment from mainstream schools to pilot adapted provision, strengthened regional collaboration, and national-level engagement following presentation of outcomes to the Department for Education.
