Abstract
In this special school for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), leaders reviewed the Key Stage 5 curriculum to ensure stronger preparation for adulthood. A skills-based mapping process analysed pupils' independence, life skills and readiness for post-school provision. Actions included visits to post-16 providers, consultation with staff, and development of personalised curriculum maps focusing on self-care, choice-making, community engagement and AAC use. Evidence of impact includes clearer understanding of progression gaps, strengthened transition planning, and a move towards a more personalised KS5 curriculum. The review has informed strategic decisions about provision models and future development of post-16 pathways.
