Abstract
Amid rising SEND complexity and limited local specialist places, this MAT (10 primary, 1 secondary) identified inconsistent intent and delivery within nurture and adapted provision. A Whole School SEND Professional Development Group, working alongside a local special school, co-designed a Specialist SEND Curriculum Pathway (SSCP) with clear intent, assessment and progression across Pre-Formal, Semi-Formal and Formal routes. Actions included trust-wide curriculum audits, staff visits to specialist settings, alignment with mainstream topics, and shared planning resources to reduce workload. Early impact shows improved staff confidence, clearer curriculum articulation, stronger inclusion and belonging, improved attendance, reduced behaviour incidents, and robust entry/exit criteria to support transitions at scale.
