Abstract
Following recognition of systemic barriers preventing students with SEND from accessing employment, this further education provider worked through an ETF Communities of Practice initiative with Leeds Museums and Galleries to improve recruitment inclusivity. Challenges included inaccessible job descriptions, application processes, and interviews, alongside low learner confidence. Actions included multi-partner focus groups with students and community organisations, analysis of recruitment practices, and trial of inclusive alternatives such as video submissions, job trials, and advance interview questions. Evidence of impact includes the successful placement of three SEND students into full-time employment with Leeds City Council, exceeding national employment averages, the launch of supported internships for 16-25 year-olds with EHCPs, sector dissemination via conference presentations, and ongoing council-wide work to embed accessible recruitment processes.
