Abstract
Within this specialist FE college, learners with learning disabilities lacked confidence accessing Annual Health Checks and communicating with health professionals. A Preparation for Adulthood project introduced structured teaching on booking and attending appointments, supported by mock health checks delivered with the college nursing team. Actions included staff CPD, simplified language, visual supports and learner feedback. Evidence of impact includes a 10% increase in learners reporting high confidence in attending GP appointments, improved communication during mock checks, and learners feeling listened to. The curriculum will now be embedded more widely, with plans to extend outreach to GP practices and support parents in health-passport completion.
